Bishop Stephen Lowe

Today Bishop Stephen Lowe came to St Joseph's to visit us. He told us about how he became the Bishop of the Hamilton Diocese. He also had a ring, mitre and crozier (staff) with him which we learnt more about. He will be at Mass on Sunday to help some of the Room 5 students make their First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Today we dressed in black to support the All Blacks as they take on France in the Rugby World Cup Final.

Gospel Value: What is Speaking with Gentleness?

Te Manuka Tutahi (Mataatua Marae)

As part of our Te Reo lessons this term we have been learning about Marae protocols and Marae Pōhiri. Therefore, on Thursday 17^th September Room 5 and 6 visited Te Manuka Tutahi (Mataatua Marae).

When we got to the Marae we went to the waharoa (gateway) to wait for the official welcoming ceremony to commence (the pōhiri). After the pōhiri we watch a short historical DVD about the wharenui itself and we watched the light show. It was amazing. Once the light show was completed we were welcomed into the wharekai - where the manuhiri (hosts) provided us with a snack. After our snack the Marae guide look us around local sites of significance.

Jump Rope for Heart

On Friday 28th August St Joseph's had our Jump Off. Through our Jump Off we were raising funds for the National Heart Foundation, which is an organisation that helps people affected by Heart Disease, fund research, help people make healthy living choices and run programmes for heart. Our challenge was to skip in a variety of challenges for 5 mins. We had so much fun!
