As part of our Te Reo lessons
this term we have been learning about Marae protocols
and Marae Pōhiri. Therefore, on Thursday 17th September Room
5 and 6 visited Te Manuka Tutahi (Mataatua Marae).
When we got to the Marae we went to the waharoa (gateway) to
wait for the official welcoming ceremony to commence (the pōhiri). After the pōhiri we watch a short historical DVD about the wharenui itself and we watched the light show. It was amazing. Once
the light show was completed we were welcomed into the wharekai - where the manuhiri (hosts) provided us with a
snack. After our snack the Marae guide look us around
local sites of significance.
Some of the places we got to visit were:
Muriwai's Cave
Wairere Waterfall
Pohaturoa Rock
Wairaka on the Rock
