Science - Creating Bubbles
Issac making a gigantic bubble |
In science we have been researching bubble mixture recipes and tools to help us create humungous bubbles. Today we got to create our mixtures, build our tools and then test them. We learnt that it was important not to put too much water in our mixtures and that the best made bubble wands had a weight on the bottom of the string and to use wool and not string. We had a fantastic time!
Testing our bubble mixtures and bubble wands
Daniel concentrating hard on making a big bubble |
Joshua enjoying making small bubbles
Cole blowing a long bubble
Toby creating his own bubble
Fifi and Atlanta creating their bubble wand |
Wow! Check out that bubble |
Procedure Writing - Making Sandwiches
Look at our tasty sandwiches |
We have been learning to follow procedures and to write our own. First, we followed a procedure on how to make a healthy sandwich. These were very yummy! Then we created our own procedures for how to make a tasty sandwich and gave to a buddy to make for us. We had lots of cool ideas. There was a range of tasty sandwiches made. Some were nice and healthy and some were sweet and delicious, but not so healthy. We found out that it is very important to write the steps in your procedure carefully or you may miss out on some crucial ingredients such as the bread or the main filling.

Welcome to Room 5's Blog
Room 5 Class Blog:
At St Joseph's Catholic School we love sharing the brilliant learning our students are doing.
Through our class blogs, our classrooms are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for parents and whanau to check out their child's learning. This is great if you are a busy parent who doesn't get into school as often as you'd like. The class blogs are a brilliant way to showcase and celebrate our students' learning to a real life global audience.
Term 2 2014
Term Two has already started. It will be a busy term for us and a short term as we only have nine weeks in it, it ends on the 4th of July.
What’s going on this term?
- In maths we are learning about multiplication and division strategies (Weeks 1-4) followed by measurement (Weeks 5-9)
- In writing we are looking at the Lego movie to enhance and motivate our students in writing. On the 30th May both Room 5 and 6 will be travelling down to the Whakatane Theatre to watch the Lego movie. We are all so excited as it has been our focus for the past few weeks. Check out our class blog for photos!
- We have a 100 book challenge! Where students have to get their race car from the top of the North Island to the bottom (Beehive to meet the Prime Minister). We are reading as a class, in groups and independently.
- In science we are researching and making bubbles.
- For P.E. we have winter games. This term we are looking into netball, soccer and basketball. Come watch us playing and learning about this sport Tuesday and Thursday afternoons!
- In Religious Education we are learning about prayer, the Holy Spirit and God. A reminder that on the 8th of July is our Full school Mass.
