Sister Remedii

Yesterday Sister Remedii came and talked to us about being a nun. We learnt how as a nun you take on three important vows; Poverty, Chastity and Obedience. It was a great experience learning about her way of life.

Keep NZ Beautiful!

Last week was 'Keep New Zealand Beautiful' week. Along with Room 6 we went out on the street near our school to collect rubbish that had not been put in the bin to show our contribution to the community. It is a great feeling to know we made a difference!

Parent Day

On Tuesday 9th September Room 5 and 6 held a Parent Day. It was great to meet some of the parents from our rooms and learn about their cultures and their jobs. We learnt lots of exciting new things and gained new knowledge. Thanks to all those parents who attended.

(Unfortunately our class iPad that had all the photos Miss Wallace took stopped working and they were deleted :(  Luckily, Miss B had a few photos with us in that she has shared).

Fraction Song

We have been learning about fractions in Room 5 and this week we learnt a song made up by a class at Nook Lane Junior School in the UK. We then recorded our singing and filmed ourselves to create our own video. We had so much fun that we can't wait to create our own song/dance next term. Check us out in the video below.

Buddy Reading

This term we have started buddy reading with Room 1. This takes place every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and we take turns to read to one another. Our buddy then asks us questions about the book to make sure we are understanding what we are reading. We love buddy reading! Check out some photos of us reading below.

Science - Creating Bubbles

Issac making a gigantic bubble

In science we have been researching bubble mixture recipes and tools to help us create humungous bubbles. Today we got to create our mixtures, build our tools and then test them. We learnt that it was important not to put too much water in our mixtures and that the best made bubble wands had a weight on the bottom of the string and to use wool and not string. We had a fantastic time!

Testing our bubble mixtures and bubble wands

Daniel concentrating hard on making a big bubble

Joshua enjoying making small bubbles

Cole blowing a long bubble
Toby creating his own bubble

Fifi and Atlanta creating their bubble wand

Wow! Check out that bubble

Procedure Writing - Making Sandwiches

Look at our tasty sandwiches

We have been learning to follow procedures and to write our own. First, we followed a procedure on how to make a healthy sandwich. These were very yummy! Then we created our own procedures for how to make a tasty sandwich and gave to a buddy to make for us. We had lots of cool ideas. There was a range of tasty sandwiches made. Some were nice and healthy and some were sweet and delicious, but not so healthy. We found out that it is very important to write the steps in your procedure carefully or you may miss out on some crucial ingredients such as the bread or the main filling.
